This month’s Gameinformer has revealed and detailed CD Projekt Red’s eagerly anticipated follow up to the critically acclaimed The Witcher 2.
Revealed via a feature in this month’s GameInformer, the next Witcher game is set to conclude the story of the epic RPG trilogy as well as bring a new and substantial open world aspect to the series. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to surpass the series previous entries by giving players a fully explorable open world that the developer claims is 20% larger than that offered in Bethesda’s dragon-slaying Skyrim – a stark contrast to the previous games which were structured into linear chapters and acts. The third installment in the series is set to include everything that popularized the previous entries – mystery-solving, monster slaying and political intrigue – brought to gamers with the powerful new technology of REDEngine 3. Gameinformer has an exclusive interview with the developers who explain why Wild Hunt is set to the most ambitious installment in the series:
The feature states that the game is set to be released in 2014 on PC and “all top-of-the-line” consoles – a detail that suggests the series may be making it’s way to both the next Playstation and Xbox. While The Witcher series has quickly gone from cult favorite to mainstream success story in the last few years, it’ll be interesting to see if the third and possibly final installment can match the scope of the series’s RPG competitors.
