THQs bankruptcy auction has finally taken place with some studios and IPs finding new homes at Ubisoft and Sega whilst others have closed their doors for good.

Joystiq has reported on the successful and backup bids for each of THQs respective studios and intellectual properties. RTS developer Relic and the Company of Heroes IP was picked up by SEGA while Volition (developers of the Red Faction and Saints Row games) has found a new home with Deep Silver. Deep Silver also held the winning bid for the publishing rights to the Metro games. The Homefront IP that THQ sunk so much into has been snatched up by Crytek who were set to be developing the sequel. Ubisoft were able to acquire the THQ Montreal Studio and their unannounced project ‘Underdog’ alongside the publishing license for South Park: The Stick of Truth. Lastly, the new IP coming out of Turtle Rock Studios (the original developer behind Left 4 Dead) ‘Evolve’ has been picked up by Take-Two Interactive.

Noticeably absent from the list is Vigil games and their blockbuster apocalypse action RPG series ‘Darksiders’ which failed to garner any bids and it will be sold off alongside the rest of THQs back-catalogue of licenses over the coming weeks. However, the failure of Vigil to be picked up in any of the major publishing deals has led to the studio down with the lead combat designer of Darksiders leaving an open letter to gamers on NeoGAF. Vigil was known for the Darksiders games but was also working on a project called ‘Crawler’ and the Warhammer 40,000 title ‘Dark Millenium’. As both a big fan of the Darksiders series and a gamer who was looking forward to Dark Millenium, I’m very saddened at the news of their dissolution.

In an interesting turn of fate the developers of Bayonetta, Anarchy Reigns and Vanquish, Platinum Games have expressed an interest in picking up the Darksiders IP on the cheap and even extended a hand to those put out work at Vigil asking over Twitter “If anyone is interested in working with/at Platinum let me know how to get ahold of you via DM”.
